We have a series of sessions of interest to people in Management at the Spring Meeting, on April 26-30, 2009, at the Tampa Convention Center, Tampa, FL

Monday, April 27, 2009

8:00 AM-11:00 AM - Project Management (05002) - Room 9 (Tampa Convention Center)

Technical work actually gets done through projects. This session welcomes papers related to new approaches to project management and case studies that illustrate best practices or "watch outs." Areas could include project scheduling, stage and gate control of projects, resources, portfolio analysis and other issues related to project management.

2:00 PM-5:00 PM - Energy and Environment Management Programs (05001)

Growing needs in both energy and environment will require major innovations in these areas and in the management skills and approaches use to manage this projects. This session invites papers that highlight the challenges, opportunities and solutions related to effectively managing efforts in this areas.

8:30 AM-11:30 AM  - Management of Open Innovation (05000)

Open Innovation is becoming an essential part of what both technical managers and technical leaders are expected to do. This session will look at how more open collaboration with other companies, large and small, with universities, government labs, innovation intermediaries and other can lead to more innovation that can be implemented more quickly.

2:00 PM-5:00 PM - How Do You Problem Solve and Why Is It Important? (05003)

Tutorial workshop session looking at problem solving style as measured by the Kirton "KAI" profile. Participants will get their own profile, learn to recognize problem solving styles and how to work effectively with them. The tutorial is free to Management Division members and will cost non-members $10. Pre-registration under Short Courses is required.Pre-registrants will receive a survey that must be returned prior to the tutorial.

Objectives

The AIChE Management Division is dedicated to serving both those already in management and those who would be. The objectives of the Division are:

 
To provide a forum to discuss and present topics pertinent to Chemical Engineering management and entrepreneurial activities

To provide chemical-engineering-management related programming at Institute meetings and to conduct special management meetings

To foster peer recognition and good communication between engineers and practicing, consulting, and academic chemical engineering management professionals by providing an opportunity for interaction  between these groups

To instill an interest in the Institute and the Management Division amongst managers and those who aspire to become managers

To encourage the provision of management training courses and, thereby, to provide a way for future and current managers to develop and enhance management skills

To coordinate the Institute's management related activities with other associations active in the broad field of management and to inspire and assist Institute members, especially younger members, in a career path toward management

The Management Division serves its members in the following ways:
 

Sponsors forums for Senior levels of management.

Sponsors management programming at AIChE Meetings

Sponsors the Marketing Section.

Encourages entrepreneurial activities through the Entrepreneurial Forum.

Co-Sponsors regional management programs with local sections.

Sponsors continuing education programs


Benefits and Opportunities

As a member of the Management Division you will be encouraged to participate in the activities sponsored by the division and to discuss your areas of interest. We encourage participation in the Division and taking an active role in one or more of the Division committees and sections. Your active participation will not only maximize the benefits to you, but will also make the Division stronger and more responsive to the needs of the profession and of industry. Please join us in these endeavors.
